ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf<\/a> (PTI) approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) for implementation of the verdict in the reserved seats case, here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

On behalf of PTI, Aziz Bhandari Advocate filed a separate petition in the Supreme Court. The PTI requested the Supreme Court to dismiss the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) plea to interpret the verdict.<\/p>\n

In the petition, PTI took the position that the basic structure of the party exists as per the constitution and law. The petition stated that PTI had conducted intra-party elections on March 3 and the details of the same had been submitted to the ECP.<\/p>\n

Barrister Gohar and Omar Ayub were elected as chairman and general secretary respectively and approved the affiliation of members with PTI, the petition said.<\/p>\n

The petition said that the ECP should complete the processing of certificates of party association members.<\/p>\n

Earlier on July 25, the Election Commission of Pakistan<\/a> (ECP) had approached the Supreme Court seeking clarification on the decision regarding the allotment of certain seats to the PTI.<\/p>\n

According to the ECP, the PTI has not held intra-party elections, raising questions about the legitimacy of its party structure.<\/p>\n

“The PTI is not functioning as a proper organization due to non-existence of intra-party elections”, sources quoted ECP<\/a> as saying.<\/p>\n

The ECP has requested the Supreme Court to clarify who has the authority to issue party certificates and how they should be recognized.<\/p>\n

According to a report of a private news channel, the commission will decide to de-notify 77 members who reached the assemblies on specific seats.<\/p>\n

A 13-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa ruled that the PTI is eligible for the allotment of certain seats, dealing a major blow to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ruling coalition.<\/p>\n

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah delivered the verdict by a majority of 8-5, setting aside the Peshawar High Court (PHC) order denying reserved seats to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) SIC. The decision was upheld.<\/p>\n
