{"id":46777,"date":"2024-08-29T20:13:14","date_gmt":"2024-08-29T15:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=46777"},"modified":"2024-08-29T20:13:14","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T15:13:14","slug":"afghanistans-taliban-govt-bans-violent-mixed-martial-arts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/world\/afghanistans-taliban-govt-bans-violent-mixed-martial-arts\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghanistan\u2019s Taliban govt bans \u2018violent\u2019 mixed martial arts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: Afghanistan\u2019s Taliban government has banned <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/afghan-refugee-breakdancer-disqualified-from-paris-olympics-for-slogan\/\">mixed martial arts<\/a> (MMA), believing it to be un-Islamic, its sports authority said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The order was passed down by Afghanistan\u2019s morality police in the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice after an investigation into the sport\u2019s compliance with Islamic law, or sharia, the statement and local media said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was found that the sport is problematic with respect to sharia and it has many aspects which are contradictory to the teachings of Islam,\u201d the Taliban government sports authority said in a statement sent to <em>AFP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why this decision has been made to ban mixed martial arts in Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A sports authority official told local media MMA was banned in part because it was considered too violent and posed the risk of injury or death.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, female sport in Afghanistan has been crushed since the Taliban took over, causing many prominent women to flee the country for fear of persecution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: Afghanistan\u2019s Taliban government has banned mixed martial arts (MMA), believing it to be un-Islamic, its sports authority said in a statement on Wednesday.
