Ltd, following a lengthy legal battle.<\/p>\n<p>This recovery was made possible under Section 40(2)(a) of the Competition Act, 2010, which grants the CCP the authority to attach <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/bank-of-punjab-acquires-naming-rights-for-lahores-gaddafi-stadium\/\">bank accounts<\/a> of non-compliant entities to recover penalties.<\/p>\n<p>The penalty was initially imposed in response to multiple complaints filed by residents of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/dha-bahawalpur-inaugurates-massive-monsoon-plantation-drive\/\">Defence Housing Authority (DHA)<\/a> Lahore, who expressed concerns about the subpar quality of services provided by Wateen Telecom and the lack of alternative service providers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, an investigation by the CCP revealed that DHA Lahore and Wateen Telecom had entered into an exclusive agreement, granting Wateen Telecom sole rights to provide telecommunication and media services in specific phases of DHA Lahore, in violation of Section 4 of the Competition Act, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in 2011, the CCP issued an order imposing fines of Rs10 million on DHA Lahore and Rs5 million on Wateen Telecom.<\/p>\n<p>While DHA Lahore paid its fine, both parties challenged the decision by filing an appeal with the Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT).<\/p>\n<p>However, in July 2024, the CAT upheld the penalties, leading the CCP to exercise its authority to recover the outstanding penalty from Wateen Telecom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has secured a significant victory by recovering an Rs5 million penalty from Wateen Telecom (Pvt.)
