{"id":47609,"date":"2024-09-06T14:11:08","date_gmt":"2024-09-06T09:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=47609"},"modified":"2024-09-06T14:11:08","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T09:11:08","slug":"first-polio-case-confirmed-in-islamabad-in-16-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/health\/first-polio-case-confirmed-in-islamabad-in-16-years\/","title":{"rendered":"First polio case confirmed in Islamabad in 16 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ISLAMABAD: The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/polio-cases-increase-in-pakistan-as-12-more-reported\/\">first polio case<\/a> in 16 years has been reported in Islamabad, bringing the cases tally in Pakistan to 17 in the current year, health officials confirmed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/500-fake-polio-vaccination-drives-reported-in-quetta\/\">National Institute of Health<\/a> (NIH) official, the polio virus was reported in a child from the federal capital&#8217;s Union Council number 4.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prime Minister&#8217;s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, expressed the development as unfortunate and urged parents <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to ensure their children are vaccinated<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to protect against the virus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Previously, the <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at NIH <\/span>confirmed that the poliovirus was found in the environmental samples of the twin cities in June 2024, the <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) <\/span>confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Centre <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anwar Haq notified that f<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">rom September 9-13, the Polio Programme will launch a large-scale vaccination campaign across 115 districts to vaccinate 33 million children under five.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vaccinators will go door-to-door to deliver the oral polio vaccine (OPV), to reach children in hard-to-reach and underserved areas, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The virus has now spread to 64 districts across Pakistan, affecting all four provinces and one district in Azad Jammu Kashmir.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The first polio case in 16 years has been reported in Islamabad, bringing the cases tally in Pakistan to 17 in the current year, health officials confirmed.\u00a0 According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) official, the polio virus was reported in a child from the federal capital&#8217;s Union Council number 4.
