{"id":4762,"date":"2021-12-21T11:45:50","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T11:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=4762"},"modified":"2021-12-21T11:45:50","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T11:45:50","slug":"pioneer-of-bone-marrow-transplant-in-pakistan-dr-tahir-shamsi-passes-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/health\/pioneer-of-bone-marrow-transplant-in-pakistan-dr-tahir-shamsi-passes-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Pioneer of bone marrow transplant in Pakistan Dr Tahir Shamsi passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Dr Tahir Shamsi, a renowned haematologist and a pioneer of bone marrow transplant in Pakistan, passed away at a private hospital in Karachi, a private news channel reported on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Tahir Shamsi was taken to a hospital last week after suffering a brain haemorrhage.<\/p>\n<p>He was receiving treatment at the time, but his condition deteriorated on Thursday, and he was transferred to the hospital&#8217;s intensive care unit (ICU), where he passed away today.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Shamsi is credited with pioneering bone marrow transplantation in Pakistan in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>He had performed more than 650 bone marrow transplants and authored more than 100 scholarly articles.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Shamsi had also pioneered the concept of plasma therapy during the first wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Shamsi founded the National Institute for Blood Diseases in 2011 to treat patients suffering blood-related ailments.<\/p>\n<p>He was also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.<\/p>\n<p>The Dow Graduates Association of North America presented the distinguished doctor with a lifetime achievement award in 2016 in acknowledgment of his contributions.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pm-imran-khan-says-supremacy-of-law-strengthens-democracy-in-country.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PM Imran Khan says supremacy of law strengthens democracy in country<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Dr Tahir Shamsi, a renowned haematologist and a pioneer of bone marrow transplant in Pakistan, passed away at a private hospital in Karachi, a private news channel reported on Tuesday morning.
