{"id":48996,"date":"2024-09-18T16:54:15","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T11:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=48996"},"modified":"2024-09-18T16:54:15","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T11:54:15","slug":"ecp-grants-jui-f-60-day-extension-for-intra-party-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ecp-grants-jui-f-60-day-extension-for-intra-party-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"ECP grants JUI-F 60-day extension for intra-party elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ecp-responds-to-scs-rejection-of-plea-in-pti-reserved-seats-case\/\"> Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)<\/a> has granted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) an additional 60 days to complete its intra-party elections.<\/p>\n<p>A three-member commission, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/pakistan-cuts-lng-imports-from-qatar-amid-declining-electricity-demand\/\">Chief Election Commissioner<\/a> Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the party&#8217;s plea.<\/p>\n<p>JUI-F&#8217;s lawyer explained that the elections are being held in phases, with district unit elections being the most time-consuming.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer submitted documents outlining the election schedule and requested a 60-day extension, citing delays due to ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pti-agrees-to-constitutional-amendments-says-khawaja-asif\/\">constitutional reforms.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, Chief Election Commissioner Raja questioned the need for such an extended timeframe, noting that constitutional reforms are unrelated to intra-party elections.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, he also emphasized that JUI-F&#8217;s federal territory elections are scheduled for September 29, after which no further extensions will be granted.<\/p>\n<p>After considering JUI-F&#8217;s request, the ECP adjourned the hearing and granted the 60-day extension.
