NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Monday to join world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA<\/a>) 79th session.<\/p>\n

During his five-day official trip<\/a> to the United States, the Prime Minister will present Pakistan\u2019s perspective to the world, advocate the country’s interests, and strengthen international partnerships.<\/p>\n

He is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 27 (Friday).<\/p>\n

Today, PM Shehbaz\u00a0will attend the reception given by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for the heads of member states, where the Prime Minister will have informal meetings with the heads of various countries, Prime Minister’s Office<\/em> said in a press release.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the 79th session of the UNGA today. Furthermore, he will also have a meeting with the President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu in which there will be a discussion regarding the promotion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

He is accompanied by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

PM to address UNGA session<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

In his address, the premier will highlight Pakistan\u2019s perspective on a range of international and regional issues of concern, including the Kashmir dispute and Palestine issue.<\/p>\n

PM Shehbaz will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and support for the role of the United Nations in fostering global peace, security and prosperity.<\/p>\n

He will express Pakistan’s commitment, as an incoming member of the UN Security Council for the year 2025-26, to work with all UN Member States to uphold the UN Charter, preventing conflict, fostering peace & promoting global prosperity.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, he is scheduled to attend several high-level meetings, including discussions on existential threats posed by sea level rise and the UN Security Council’s open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
