{"id":53061,"date":"2024-10-17T15:09:19","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T10:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=53061"},"modified":"2024-10-17T15:11:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-17T10:11:48","slug":"50-years-of-tarbela-dam-marked-with-commemorative-postage-stamp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/50-years-of-tarbela-dam-marked-with-commemorative-postage-stamp\/","title":{"rendered":"50 Years of Tarbela Dam marked with commemorative postage stamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Post issued a commemorative postage stamp worth 50 Rupees to mark 50 years of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/tarbela-dam-attains-maximum-water-storage-level\/\">Tarbela Dam<\/a> \u2014 the country&#8217;s largest water reservoir along the Indus River.<\/p>\n<p>Additional Director General (Operation) Pakistan Post Rizwan Javed Hashmi unveiled the commemorative postage stamp at a ceremony held at <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/cabinet-approves-termination-of-contract-with-5-ipps-in-first-pahse\/\">WAPDA House<\/a> with Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) as the chief guest.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony was attended by the Post Master General (Central Punjab), Deputy Post Master General (Admn), WAPDA\u2019s Member Finance, Member Water, Member Power, Secretary, and GMs from across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman thanked the Pakistan Post for issuance of the commemorative postage stamp.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Tarbela Dam is a testament to Pakistan\u2019s engineering prowess and commitment to the socio-economic development of the country. &#8220;The commemorative postage stamp is a fitting tribute to this iconic project. The postage stamp will serve as a reminder of Tarbela Dam\u2019s significance for generations to come,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A commemorative postage stamp worth Rs. 50 was issued by Pakistan Post to mark 50 years of Tarbela Dam. Additional DG (Operation) Pakistan Post unveiled the commemorative postage stamp. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lhcc01MZxb\">pic.twitter.com\/lhcc01MZxb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WAPDA (@wapda_pr) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wapda_pr\/status\/1846788423735992778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 17, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Later, the Additional Director General (Operation), on behalf of the Pakistan Post, presented an album of the commemorative postage stamp to the Chairman.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that the Tarbela Dam, completed in 1974, has been playing an instrumental role in economic development and social uplift in Pakistan during the last 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>The contribution the Tarbela Dam Project has made towards progress in the country can be judged from the fact that it has released 406 million acre-feet (MAF) of stored water from the reservoir for agriculture and contributed 590,361 million units of low-cost and environment-friendly hydel electricity to the National Grid.<\/p>\n<p>The economic and financial benefits of one MAF of water in Pakistan are estimated at US$ 1,000 million (US$ 1 billion).
