{"id":55416,"date":"2024-11-07T22:28:39","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T17:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=55416"},"modified":"2024-11-07T22:28:39","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T17:28:39","slug":"overseas-pakistanis-offer-rs100-billion-to-purchase-pia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/overseas-pakistanis-offer-rs100-billion-to-purchase-pia\/","title":{"rendered":"Overseas Pakistanis offer Rs100 billion to purchase PIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: An overseas Pakistani group has offered more than 1.25 trillion rupees for the national airline as the South Asian country looks to sell loss-making state-owned enterprises to improve the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am writing to formally present an offer to acquire Pakistan International Airlines (<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/not-for-cheap-sale-pakistans-privatization-minister-stands-firm-on-pia-valuation\/\">PIA<\/a>) at a valuation of PKR 100 billion,\u201d Al-Nihang\u2019s Group CEO Muhammad Ali Faqir said in a letter to the three ministries of Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Cash-strapped Pakistan is seeking to offload a 51-100% stake in debt-ridden PIA to raise funds under a $7 billion International Monetary Fund program and to reform bleeding public institutions.<\/p>\n<p>In May this year, Finance Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/muhammad-aurangzeb-gets-pakistani-citizenship-after-cabinet-approval\/\">Muhammad Aurangzeb<\/a> clarified that there is no such thing as a &#8220;strategic SOE&#8221; and vowed to accelerate the privatization agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The overseas group&#8217;s offer comes after the government failed to place a substantial bid for the national airline at a bidding ceremony on October 31. The Privatization Commission attracted bids of only Rs 10 billion against the Rs 85 billion price tag for the national airline.<\/p>\n<p>The email was sent to the ministers of privatisation, aviation and defence.
