{"id":55660,"date":"2024-11-10T14:07:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-10T09:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=55660"},"modified":"2024-11-10T14:07:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-10T09:07:11","slug":"punjab-govt-introduces-super-tax-on-wealthy-landowners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/punjab-govt-introduces-super-tax-on-wealthy-landowners\/","title":{"rendered":"Punjab govt introduces super tax on wealthy landowners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: Punjab&#8217;s agricultural<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/icci-hails-separation-of-fbrs-tax-collection-from-policymaking-functions\/\"> tax policy<\/a> has been a topic of discussion for years, aiming to boost revenue generation in a province where agriculture contributes significantly to the economy, accounting for 27% of the provincial <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/chinas-population-continues-to-drop-while-its-gdp-grows-slowly-in-2023\/\">Gross Domestic Product<\/a> (GDP).<\/p>\n<p>The Punjab government has initiated an agricultural tax targeting large landowners, aligning with the<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/pba-commends-govt-over-negotiating-imf-bailout-package\/\"> International Monetary Fund&#8217;s<\/a> (IMF) requirements.<\/p>\n<p>This policy includes a super tax on wealthy<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/cda-plans-to-launch-10-new-residential-sectors-in-islamabad\/\"> landowners<\/a> who derive substantial income from agricultural activities and incorporates livestock income into the agricultural tax framework.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, agricultural tax collection in Punjab has been relatively low. In FY2014, the collection was only Rs0.83 billion, almost the same level as the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>The Punjab Agricultural Income Tax Act 1997 allows the provincial government to tax agricultural incomes, while the federal government taxes other sources of income.
