ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified Adil Khan Bazai, a member of the National Assembly from NA-262, from his legislative seat for violating party policy.<\/p>\n
ECP bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, announced the reserved verdict on Thursday in a reference filed by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif against seeking disqualification of Adil Bazai for negating the party\u2019s policy.<\/p>\n
The former prime minister sent a reference to the National Assembly Speaker against Bazai, elected in the February 8 elections from a Quetta constituency, for not voting on the Finance Bill and the recently enacted 26th Constitutional Amendment.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, PML-N’s lawyer told the court that Adil Bazai after winning the Feb 8 election submitted an affidavit of joining the ruling PML-N. A few days later, he said, Bazai submitted an affidavit of joining the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).<\/p>\n
During the hearing, Adil Bazai’s lawyer had called the affidavit of joining the PML-N fake and asked for a forensic audit of the affidavit. He maintained that his client never joined the PML-N.<\/p>\n
He added that Bazai was elected as an independent member of the lower house of parliament from Quetta. The lawyer pointed out that it was mentioned in the PML-N reference that Bazai never sat on the government benches.<\/p>\n
To this, the CEC said that if Bazai had submitted an affidavit to join the Sunni Ittehad Council, then why had he not contacted the Election Commission?
