LAHORE: In a recent development, acclaimed senior journalist and anchorperson Aftab Iqbal<\/a> finally reached home after more than a 20-hour disappearance in Dubai, UAE.<\/p>\n

The news of his safe return was also shared on his X account; it read, “Went through a tough time but Alhamdulillah, Aftab Iqbal has safely reached home, thanks to all who prayed for us”.<\/p>\n

Aftab had gone from London to Dubai along with his wife; however, he disappeared no more than just after he reached the immigration counter in the Dubai airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His all relatives further claimed that his wife, being in search of him, approached the airport authorities, but to no clear information about her husband was made available.<\/p>\n

This development has been confirmed by Aftab’s brother Junaid Iqbal in some sort of a tweet, saying “being stopped intransit” upon arrival at Dubai from Manchester without any substantial justification; Junaid urged intervention by the government at the right place to arrange Aftab’s exit safely out of the Airport.<\/p>\n

Sources close to the development said Aftab was stopped at the Dubai airport for his ‘pro-PTI stance and political commentary’, and an attempt at his deportation was made, which failed as it was proved he had not violated any UAE laws.<\/p>\n

It is pertinent to mention here that Aftab holds a UAE golden visa and is presently living in the gulf country as he had left the country last year after his arrest and subsequent release in the May 9 attack on Lahore Corps Commander’s House.<\/p>\n

Aftab has worked in many leading news channels including Geo, Express News, Dunya News and Samaa. His detention and subsequent release cast aspersions on freedom of speech and treatment in regard to journalists within the UAE.<\/p>\n

This incident brought into the forefront the safety and security of all journalists and media personalities, especially those with strong opinions or political commentary. Thankfully, Aftab is safe and sound now; his return home brought a sigh of relief for both his family and fans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
