The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all passports in the world according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Furthermore, the Henley & Partners research team studies and ranks the data on a number of parameters to produce the index.

Over the past several years, Pakistan’s passport has seen a decline in value on several fronts. For example, Saudi authorities seized 12,000 Pakistani passports from Afghan citizens in 2023. Pakistani authorities have been involved in issuing fake citizenship documents to illegal immigrants, especially Afghans, in the country. The political crisis in Pakistan resulted in the cancellation of 23 Pakistani passports whose owners were involved in the attack on the former Chief Justice of Pakistan in London, UK. Recently, Pakistan cancelled the passports of 4,700 citizens imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates.

Singapore topped the list in 2025. It had also held the top-ranking last year. Singaporean passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 195 countries globally, or literally, the entire world. Japan is second in the global index. Its citizens enjoy visa-free access to 193 countries. Moreover, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea are in third place with visa-free access to 192 countries.

ISLAMABAD: Passport Power: Pakistan is ranked 103, lower than the occupied Palestinian territory, which is ranked 100th in the world rankings.
