{"id":63353,"date":"2025-01-23T13:30:41","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T08:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=63353"},"modified":"2025-01-23T13:30:41","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T08:30:41","slug":"ihc-seeks-fia-response-on-imran-bushras-acquittal-pleas-in-new-toshakhana-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/featured\/ihc-seeks-fia-response-on-imran-bushras-acquittal-pleas-in-new-toshakhana-case\/","title":{"rendered":"IHC seeks FIA response on Imran, Bushra&#8217;s acquittal pleas in new Toshakhana case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD:\u00a0The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notice to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/fia-issues-strict-advisory-to-curb-human-trafficking\/\">Federal Investigation Agency<\/a> (FIA) related to Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi&#8217;s acquittal pleas in the new Toshakhana case.<\/p>\n<p>According to the details, the newly sworn-in Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas presided over the hearing on the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/imran-khan-bushra-bibis-acquittal-plea-in-toshakhana-ii-case-dismissed\/\">acquittal requests<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The court has issued notice to FIA, seeking a response on the matter until January 28.<\/p>\n<p>The couple was arrested on July 13, 2024, in the case regarding the retention of an expensive Bulgari jewellery set gifted by a foreign leader at a low price, saying it caused significant loss to the national exchequer.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing today, Imran Khan\u2019s counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, requested the court to issue a stay order on the trial proceedings, which\u00a0Justice Raja Inam declined.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no judicial precedent for staying criminal proceedings at this stage. We will issue a notice on your request and hear the other party,&#8221; the judge remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Khan&#8217;s lawyer also requested a change of bench, suggesting that Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, who had previously heard related five petitions, should preside over the acquittal pleas.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inam rejected the request, clarifying that those cases involved bail applications, whereas the current matter pertains to acquittal pleas. \u201cThose were bail applications, which is a separate matter. This court will hear this case.
