WELLINGTON: New Zealand has just announced a game-changer for digital nomads and remote workers<\/a>\u00a0 from today, visitor visas will allow people to work remotely for a foreign employer while they’re holidaying in the country.<\/p>\n

This means that tourists, people visiting family, and, even, spouses or grandparents on long-term visas will now be allowed to work remotely without any bother.<\/p>\n

The government is hoping to attract a new tourist market<\/a> that seeks to combine travel and work, and expects them to spend more time and money in New Zealand, at even off-peak times.<\/p>\n

According to Tourism Minister<\/a> Louise Upston, digital nomad visas are becoming an increasingly popular moiety of working, which has digitalized and become more flexible; and New Zealand wants to be at the forefront of this trend.<\/p>\n

The change is part of the government’s plan to speed up the country’s economies and make it more attractive to visitors; “Tourism is the second-largest export industry for New Zealand, bringing in almost $11 billion and employing nearly 200,000 people,” said Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis.<\/p>\n

By giving remote workers a visa to stay in the country, the government hopes to access a new market source and further boost revenue. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford added that the change opens opportunities for tourists to experience New Zealand and potentially fall in love with it.<\/p>\n

Bear in mind that anyone looking to work remotely for more than 90 days will need to consider the tax implications involved. That said, for most digital nomads, this is a fantastic opportunity to have the best New Zealand has to offer, all whilst working remotely.<\/p>\n
