ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court<\/a> (IHC) has <\/span>formally<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>commenced<\/span>\u00a0the judicial\u00a0<\/span>work<\/span> of its two newly appointed judges, Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif, despite the <\/span>protest<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from lawyer groups. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to the IHC case schedule, Justice Dogar has been <\/span>given<\/span>\u00a0three cases for today, while Justice Asif will\u00a0<\/span>take<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>up<\/span>\u00a0two cases.\u00a0<\/span>All<\/span>\u00a0courtrooms are\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>place<\/span>, and the case lists\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0the two judges have been\u00a0<\/span>put<\/span> outside their respective courtrooms, starting their official duties at the High Court.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the\u00a0<\/span>hearing<\/span>, Deputy Attorney General Abdul Khaliq Thand and Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Dogar welcomed Justice Dogar and\u00a0<\/span>greeted<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>him<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The transfer of three judges from the Sindh High Court<\/a>, Lahore High Court (LHC), and Balochistan High Court to the IHC has <\/span>created<\/span> controversy,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span> the Islamabad Bar Council, IHC Bar Association, and the District Bar Association are set to observe a strike today.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lawyer groups will protest against the transfer of three judges from High Courts of other provinces to the IHC\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it is\u00a0<\/span>suspected<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>divide<\/span>\u00a0the judiciary and\u00a0<\/span>has<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>basis<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>mala fide intentions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At<\/span>\u00a0a joint press conference on Sunday, the office-bearers of the three groups\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>they\u00a0<\/span>would<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>oppose the\u00a0<\/span>move tooth and nail<\/span>. <\/span>Islamabad Bar Council Chairman Aleem Abbasi announced a convention at the District Court in G-11 at 11 AM today.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Saturday, several IHC judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, wrote a letter to the President of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging them not to bring judges from other high courts or appoint them as the IHC chief justice.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
