MUZAFFARGARH: The first case <\/span>of<\/span> the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act<\/a> (PECA) 2025 has been registered in Muzaffargarh leading to the arrest of the accused individual who used to make false allegations on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0In an operation conducted by the <\/span>Federal Investigation Agency<\/a> (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Muzaffargarh police, the accused was arrested.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the reports, the individual used to make<\/span>\u00a0false allegations\u00a0<\/span>on social media,\u00a0<\/span>which\u00a0<\/span>aimed at damaging a citizen’s reputation<\/span>\u00a0through blasphemy charges<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

PECA 2025<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>enacts<\/span>\u00a0the establishment of the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority<\/span>\u00a0headquartered in Islamabad<\/span>\u00a0with additional offices in provincial capitals. <\/span><\/p>\n

The authority will consist of nine members<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>headed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by<\/span> the Interior Secretary, the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). <\/span><\/p>\n

Among the other five appointed members, <\/span>a journalist with 10 years of experience, a software engineer, a lawyer, a social media professional, and an IT expert from the private sector<\/span> will be appointed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the amended\u00a0law of\u00a0<\/span>PECA<\/span>, the authority will be\u00a0<\/span>answerable<\/span> for the\u00a0<\/span>protection<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and rights of\u00a0<\/span>social media users and will look <\/span>after<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the registration of social media platforms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Authority will have the <\/span>power to\u00a0<\/span>cancel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>their registration<\/span>, <\/span>set regulatory standards, and\u00a0<\/span>exercise<\/span>\u00a0disciplinary\u00a0<\/span>powers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>over<\/span>\u00a0social media<\/span>. This move\u00a0<\/span>would<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>regulate social media and prevent\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>misuse<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>disseminate\u00a0<\/span>harmful\u00a0<\/span>content<\/span>\u00a0while\u00a0<\/span>protecting\u00a0<\/span>the rights of citizens in the digital <\/span>world<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
