ISLAMABAD: The <\/span>board of directors of <\/span>Pakistan International Airlines<\/a> (PIA) has approved a 15 hike in the salary of the employees, <\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>move\u00a0<\/span>which<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>align\u00a0<\/span>their<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>pay grades\u00a0<\/span>with the\u00a0<\/span>intensifying<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>inflation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in the country<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

This\u00a0<\/span>is a\u00a0<\/span>great<\/span> relief for PIA employees<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>they\u00a0<\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>been<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>working<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>without<\/span>\u00a0pay\u00a0<\/span>increases<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>since<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>2019<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>even<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>though\u00a0<\/span>the last <\/span>increment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>introduced<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>four<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>years ago<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since then, soaring inflation<\/a> has taken a toll on employees, making it challenging for them to manage their daily expenses. The salary revision aims to retain experienced staff and prevent a talent drain from the organization, which has already witnessed a steady decline in its workforce over the years, with the total number of employees now reduced to less than 7,000.<\/p>\n

<\/span>The issue of salary revision had been pending for a long time, with repeated requests made to the Privatization Commission and the financial adviser for approval.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the recent decision marks a major step towards addressing employees’ financial concerns while ensuring PIA maintains an efficient and experienced workforce. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 15% salary increase is a cadre-wise change, which means that employees will receive a raise based on their respective cadres. This move is expected to boost employee morale and motivation, which is essential for the airline’s overall performance.<\/span><\/p>\n
