{"id":66379,"date":"2025-02-24T13:48:52","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T08:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=66379"},"modified":"2025-02-24T17:06:18","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T12:06:18","slug":"imf-team-arrives-in-pakistan-to-discuss-climate-financing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/imf-team-arrives-in-pakistan-to-discuss-climate-financing\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF team arrives in Pakistan to discuss climate financing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">ISLAMABAD: A technical team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Islamabad for a three-day visit to discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pakistan-receives-500-million-from-adb-for-climate-resilience\/\">climate financing<\/a> and related policy measures, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The finance czar said that a second <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/imf-agrees-to-pakistans-demands-for-pia-privatisation\/\">IMF team<\/a> would visit next month to discuss matters related to the country&#8217;s progress under the latest $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to sources, the four-member IMF team will hold negotiations, starting today, with federal and provincial authorities to review climate funding strategies, including green budgeting, tracking,\u00a0and reporting mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This engagement will focus on Pakistan\u2019s request for over $1 billion in additional financing under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) alongside preparations for a policy review of the country\u2019s performance under the ongoing $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).<\/p>\n<p>According to IMF Resident Representative Mahir Binici, the mission will assess Pakistan\u2019s commitment to climate-focused economic reforms and technical aspects of the RSF arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>The discussions, set to run until February 28, aim to assess Pakistan\u2019s progress on climate adaptation and financing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">One key agenda item is the proposed introduction of a carbon levy in the federal budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As per details, Pakistan has prepared a Public Investment Procedures and Parameters report under the IMF conditions to qualify for the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td_block_wrap tdb_single_content tdi_40 td-pb-border-top td_block_template_1 td-post-content tagdiv-type\" data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_40\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>The IMF has advised the government to allocate at least 1% of GDP annually\u2014over Rs1.24 trillion\u2014to climate adaptation efforts to mitigate economic disruptions caused by extreme weather events, particularly floods.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: A technical team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Islamabad for a three-day visit to discuss climate financing and related policy measures, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed.
