LAHORE: During<\/span> the<\/span> week<\/span> ending<\/span> March<\/span> 20<\/span>,<\/span> Pakistan experienced<\/span> a<\/span> 0<\/span>.<\/span>35<\/span>%<\/span> decrease<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> weekly inflation<\/a> measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator<\/a> (SPI) for the combined consumption groups.<\/div>\n

The SPI decreased<\/span> to<\/span> 319.62 points from the<\/span> prior<\/span> week<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> SPI<\/span> of<\/span> 320<\/span>.75<\/span> points<\/span>.<\/span> SPI<\/span> in<\/span> the same week last year was<\/span> 1.20% lower<\/span> than<\/span> this<\/span> year<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> SPI<\/span>. The weekly SPI measures<\/span> 51<\/span> essential<\/span> items<\/span> in<\/span> 17<\/span> urban<\/span> centers<\/span> for all consumption<\/span> and<\/span> expenditure groups.<\/div>\n

The lowest consumption group, or<\/span> those<\/span> with an income up to Rs 17,732, experienced<\/span> a decrease of 0.39% in SPI resulting<\/span> in<\/span> an<\/span> SPI<\/span> of<\/span> 308.43,<\/span> down<\/span> from the<\/span> previous<\/span> week<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> SPI<\/span> of<\/span> 309<\/span>.<\/span>65<\/span>.<\/div>\n

The<\/span> SPI<\/span> for<\/span> other<\/span> consumption groups in<\/span> the<\/span> urban<\/span> centers<\/span><\/a> experienced a decrease in the<\/span> weekly<\/span> SPI measurement<\/span> ranging from 0.35% to 0.40%. Regarding<\/span> the<\/span> 51 total<\/span> items priced<\/span>, 11<\/span> experienced<\/span> a price increase, 18 experienced<\/span> a<\/span> price decrease, and 22 items remained unchanged <\/span>the previous<\/span> week.<\/div>\n

Items that decreased<\/span> in<\/span> price<\/span> significantly<\/span> last<\/span> week<\/span> included tomatoes (7.08%), onions (6.07%), garlic (5.59%), eggs (4.64%), and potatoes (2.50%).<\/div>\n

The<\/span> items that saw an increased<\/span> price<\/span> week<\/span> over<\/span> week<\/span> included lawn printed (2.90%), LPG (1.53%), bananas (1.45%), and long cloth (1.23%). Year<\/span>–over<\/span>-year, the<\/span> following<\/span> commodities<\/span> decreased<\/span> in price<\/span>:<\/span> onions (67.67%), wheat flour (35.58%), tomatoes (29.45%), and chilies powder (20.00%).<\/div>\n

The\u00a0following<\/span> commodities experienced<\/span> upward<\/span> price<\/span> changes<\/span> year<\/span> over<\/span> year<\/span>:<\/span> ladies’ sandals (75.09%), pulse moong (26.96%), powdered milk (25.75%), and beef (21.01%).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
