ISLAMABAD: Pakistan joins the global community today in observing World Meteorological Day<\/a>, highlighting the crucial role of meteorology in tackling climate-related challenges.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year, “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together,” calls<\/span> for enhancing<\/span> forecasting systems<\/a> to address<\/span> the impacts of extreme weather and<\/span> climate<\/span> events.<\/p>\n

As one of the countries<\/span> most vulnerable<\/span> to<\/span> climate-related<\/span> developments<\/span>, Pakistan’s need<\/span> for<\/span> meteorological improvement<\/span> and early warning systems cannot be underestimated<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The recent<\/span> years<\/span> have<\/span> seen<\/span> the<\/span> country<\/span> suffering<\/span> devastating floods, heatwaves, and changing<\/span> monsoon characteristics<\/span>, putting<\/span> millions of lives and livelihoods in<\/span> jeopardy<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> Pakistan Meteorological Department<\/a> (PMD) has taken<\/span> important<\/span> steps<\/span> recently<\/span> to<\/span> improve<\/span> weather predictions, disaster preparedness, and dissemination<\/span> of<\/span> early warning information<\/span>.<\/p>\n

While<\/span> these<\/span> efforts<\/span> are<\/span> crucial<\/span>,<\/span> experts<\/span> have<\/span> suggested<\/span> that<\/span> government departments<\/span>, research institutions, and international partners need<\/span> to work<\/span> more<\/span> closely<\/span> together<\/span> to<\/span> ensure<\/span> appropriate<\/span> responses to climate disasters occur<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Federal and provincial authorities have confirmed<\/span> that<\/span> they<\/span> respond<\/span> and<\/span> make<\/span> appropriate<\/span> investments<\/span> to enhance<\/span> meteorological resources<\/span>, integrate<\/span> modern<\/span> technology, and enhance<\/span> the<\/span> public‘<\/span>s<\/span> awareness of<\/span> disaster preparedness.<\/p>\n
