{"id":69374,"date":"2025-03-29T20:18:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T15:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=69374"},"modified":"2025-03-29T20:18:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T15:18:00","slug":"beggars-flood-pakistani-markets-before-eid-ul-fitr-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/beggars-flood-pakistani-markets-before-eid-ul-fitr-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Beggars flood Pakistani markets before Eid ul Fitr 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\">LAHORE: <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/murree-authorities-announce-traffic-plan-for-eid-ul-fitr-2025\/\">Eid-ul-Fitr<\/a> is just around the corner, and beggars are occupying the streets and public spaces of Pakistan\u2019s bustling commercial markets, especially in major cities like Lahore, Karachi and Multan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This Eid, a large number of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/beggars-detained-after-coming-back-from-saudi-arabia\/\">beggars<\/a> were seen in the busy Eid bazaars as people from far-flung areas flock to the cities to milk the charitable spirit of the season.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The Eid season is considered the most lucrative time for beggars and this year, the city\u2019s roads, traffic signals and shopping centres have once again been filled with beggars of all ages and genders.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">While some are going door-to-door in residential areas begging for Fitr, others are approaching crowds in the markets.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">It is estimated that there are over 400,000 beggars in the port city of Karachi alone.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> With the numbers increasing, concerns about beggars during the festive season have prompted the city administration to launch its annual crackdown.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Meanwhile, the police and other law enforcement agencies failed to provide any relief to the citizens visiting the market.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Moreover, the local administration has intensified its operations against professional beggars, rounding them up and sending them to Edhi Homes for temporary shelter.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The problem of professional begging extends beyond Pakistan\u2019s borders.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Many beggars travel to Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Eid and Ashura to receive alms in foreign currency.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"458\"><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In the face of complaints from Gulf countries, Pakistan\u2019s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started stopping beggars at airports, putting 4,300 beggars on the Exit Control List (ECL) as part of a crackdown on the practice.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: Eid-ul-Fitr is just around the corner, and beggars are occupying the streets and public spaces of Pakistan\u2019s bustling commercial markets, especially in major cities like Lahore, Karachi and Multan.
