ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has advocated<\/span> for<\/span> a considerable<\/span> modification<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> entry<\/span> examination<\/span> for<\/span> Pakistan’s civil service<\/a> (CSS), recommending<\/span> Urdu as an optional medium in the compulsory subject paper<\/span>.<\/p>\n

At<\/span> present<\/span>, English works<\/span> as<\/span> a critical<\/span> requirement, causing<\/span> many deserving<\/span> students to<\/span> fail<\/span> simply<\/span> as<\/span> a<\/span> result<\/span> of<\/span> their<\/span> underperformance<\/span> in the language paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Iqbal asserted<\/span> that English<\/span> serves<\/span> as<\/span> both<\/span> an<\/span> unjust<\/span> requirement<\/span>\u00a0and that<\/span> it<\/span> removes<\/span> deserving candidates from the system, stating, “If English was the key to performance, our civil service would be the best in the world.”<\/p>\n

The Minister<\/span> feels<\/span> that granting<\/span> the<\/span> option<\/span> of<\/span> Urdu<\/span> would aid<\/span> inclusion, national integration<\/span>, and giving<\/span> rightful recognition<\/span> to the national language. This is an<\/span> extension<\/span> of greater<\/span> reform<\/span> efforts<\/span> that<\/span> are<\/span> already<\/span> underway<\/span> in<\/span> the bureaucracy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Iqbal has<\/span> expressed<\/span> that the civil service requirements<\/span> outlined in\u00a01973, are<\/span> obsolete<\/span> and should<\/span> reflect a<\/span> contemporary<\/span> social and institutional realities.<\/p>\n

Other major<\/span> reforms include Cluster-Based Structure: This<\/span> will<\/span> bring<\/span> possible<\/span> professionals representing<\/span> major<\/span> fields,<\/span> reduce<\/span> the bureaucratic<\/span> shortage of technical experts.- Duplication<\/span> of<\/span> Corporate Sector Models<\/span>: Offering<\/span> efficiencies<\/span> in public offices via<\/span> best practices utilized<\/span> in<\/span> the corporate sector<\/span>– Bureaucratic<\/span> Review<\/span>: Updating the existing<\/span> civil service model to reflect contemporary<\/span> realities and needs.<\/p>\n

These structural<\/span> reforms<\/span> are<\/span> targeted<\/span> to<\/span> substantially<\/span> reformulate<\/span> a<\/span> consequential<\/span> national<\/span> debate<\/span> of<\/span> Pakistan’s civil<\/span> service<\/span>.<\/p>\n
