KARACHI: Tensions flared<\/span> in Karachi’s Bahadurabad locality<\/span> on Monday evening<\/span> when protesters from a right-wing group laid<\/span> siege<\/span> to<\/span> a KFC outlet<\/a>, demanding the<\/span> boycott of the fast-food chain in support<\/span> of<\/span> Palestine.<\/p>\n

Protesters<\/span>, chanting and holding placards, criticized<\/span> American food franchises like KFC and<\/span> McDonald’s, and Domino’s for supporting the Israeli Defense Forces<\/a> through<\/span> indirect<\/span> means<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The protesters forcibly closed<\/span> down several<\/span> KFC outlets<\/span> throughout<\/span> the city, throwing<\/span> stones at the<\/span> businesses<\/span> and calling<\/span> on<\/span> citizens to stop<\/span> eating<\/span> products connected<\/span> to American<\/span> corporations<\/span> that<\/span> they<\/span> believe<\/span> are<\/span> in<\/span> support<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Israeli attacks<\/span>.<\/p>\n

“We can survive without KFC,” one protester yelled<\/span> at diners<\/span>, while another shouted<\/span>, “Children are being killed in<\/span> Gaza<\/span> every day. This isn<\/span>‘<\/span>t<\/span> just a boycott \u2014 it’s a moral stance<\/span>.”<\/p>\n

The protests are<\/span> demonstrative<\/span> of<\/span> some<\/span> growing sentiment<\/span> of solidarity with Palestine<\/a> among certain factions<\/span> in the city.<\/p>\n

Online reports stated that no injuries were recorded but that some outlets’ operations were momentarily halted due to security concerns.<\/p>\n

Although the fast food chain’s Karachi police have not yet released an official statement, residents reported seeing local officers stationed in several areas to stop the situation from getting worse.<\/p>\n

Karachi shut-down strike<\/h2>\n

Karachi traders protested Israeli operations in Gaza and showed sympathy with Palestinians by participating in a citywide shutdown strike on Monday.<\/p>\n

More than 600 major markets in the city were closed as a result of the strike, which came after Hamas issued a global summons.<\/p>\n

Israel is still attacking Gaza’s hospitals, killing several people, including journalists. The strikes are a component of Israel’s continuous military assault against Hamas, which grew more intense following the ceasefire’s failure.<\/p>\n
