KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced<\/span> new initiatives<\/span> to address<\/span> the growing<\/span> number of road accidents in Karachi. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah<\/a> held<\/span> a meeting in<\/span> which<\/span> several<\/span> important<\/span> decisions were reached<\/span>, among<\/span> them<\/span> maintaining<\/span> the speed of heavy vehicles at<\/span> 30 kilometers per hour\u00a0and requiring<\/span> drug testing of<\/span> drivers<\/span> for drugs<\/span>.<\/p>\n

These initiatives<\/span> aim to curb<\/span> accidents of<\/span> heavy transport vehicles. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for coordination between<\/span> departments<\/span> to carry<\/span> out<\/span> effective law<\/span> enforcement of traffic laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The<\/span> Transport Department, Excise Department, Licensing Authority, Traffic Police, and NADRA will be put<\/span> into<\/span> coordination<\/span>. Also<\/span>, the<\/span> organization<\/span> of<\/span> the Traffic Engineering Bureau<\/a> will be under the supervision of<\/span> the<\/span> mayor<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Moreover<\/span>,<\/span> the<\/span> government will act<\/span> strictly<\/span> against<\/span> violators<\/span> of<\/span> traffic laws<\/span>, such<\/span> as<\/span> motorcyclists without helmets or<\/span> even<\/span> individuals<\/span> triple riding. Additionally<\/span>,<\/span> vehicles<\/span> deemed<\/span> unfit<\/span> by<\/span> the<\/span> Transport<\/span> Department<\/span> will be confiscated and only allowed<\/span> to<\/span> operate in<\/span> the<\/span> future<\/span> upon<\/span> approval from the department<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Additionally<\/span>, and<\/span> more<\/span> importantly<\/span>,<\/span> the<\/span> government<\/span> will also<\/span> require<\/span> all<\/span> drivers to<\/span> undergo<\/span> internationally<\/span> recognized<\/span> standard<\/span> training<\/span> before a<\/span> license<\/span> is<\/span> awarded<\/span>.<\/p>\n

These decisions came<\/span> as Karachi recorded<\/span> a substantial<\/span> amount<\/span> of traffic violations, totaling<\/span> over 1.6 million challans issued within<\/span> 2024, of<\/span> which<\/span> an<\/span> amount<\/span> of<\/span> Rs 1.33 billion was<\/span> collected in<\/span> fines<\/span>. With<\/span> directions<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> Chief<\/span> Minister<\/span>,<\/span> these<\/span> early<\/span> initiatives<\/span> have<\/span> disabled<\/span> traffic<\/span> accidents in Karachi<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
