LAHORE: The Lahore High Court<\/a> (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench has released<\/span> a written order in the case of<\/span> social media celebrity<\/span> Arshad Khan, aka<\/span> “Chaiwala,“<\/span> against<\/span> the cancellation of his CNIC<\/span> and passport.<\/p>\n

Justice Jawad Hassan presided<\/span> over<\/span> the case<\/span>,<\/span> issuing<\/span> notices to all parties involved<\/span>, including the National Database and Registration Authority<\/a> (NADRA), to file<\/span> their responses by April 17.<\/p>\n

Arshad Khan’s petition questioned<\/span> the legality of stopping<\/span> his CNIC and passport after a channel aired rumors calling<\/span> into<\/span> question<\/span> Arshad<\/span> Khan<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> nationality.<\/p>\n

His counsel<\/span> argued that this puts<\/span> Arshad<\/span> Khan<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> future and professional career at<\/span> risk<\/span>, explaining<\/span> that Arshad Khan is a national<\/span> citizen\u00a0and<\/span> has<\/span> a family history supporting<\/span> a<\/span> Pakistani passport<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The counsel<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> petitioner asserted<\/span> that<\/span> it<\/span>‘s malicious<\/span> and<\/span> unjust<\/span> to<\/span> demand<\/span> proof of citizenship from<\/span> before<\/span> 1978, citing the Pakistan Citizenship Act of<\/span> 1951, which establishes<\/span> that<\/span> passports<\/span> are<\/span> prima<\/span> facie<\/span> evidence<\/span> of<\/span> vacation<\/span>.<\/p>\n

For<\/span> their<\/span> part<\/span>, the government counsel<\/span> argued<\/span> that<\/span> they<\/span> were<\/span> not<\/span> defending<\/span> the action<\/span> of<\/span> blocking<\/span> Arshad<\/span> Khan<\/span>‘s CNIC<\/span> and<\/span> passport<\/span>, but<\/span> argued<\/span> the<\/span> petition<\/span> was<\/span> not<\/span> maintainable<\/span> as<\/span> Arshad Khan had<\/span> not<\/span> established<\/span> Pakistani citizenship.<\/p>\n

The Court<\/span> requested<\/span> that<\/span> the Counsel<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> government<\/span> ensure that<\/span> all appropriate<\/span> departments submit a<\/span> report<\/span> before the next hearing on April 17,<\/span> 2023<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
