LAHORE: In a groundbreaking move, the Economic Cooperation Organization<\/a> (ECO) honored Pakistan and Punjab by naming Lahore its ‘Tourism Capital’ for 2027.<\/p>\n

A 25-member delegation from the ECO, representing ten member states, visited Lahore starting April 13 to make the official announcement. This distinction recognizes Lahore’s rich historical, cultural, and tourism heritage.<\/p>\n

The ECO’s Permanent Representatives Council met at the Civil Secretariat, hosted by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz<\/a>. Founded in 1964 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey, the ECO aims to promote regional cooperation.<\/p>\n

Its member nations include Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n

By selecting Lahore as the ‘ECO Capital of Tourism<\/a>‘, the organization highlights the city’s significance in the region’s cultural and historical landscape.<\/p>\n

This recognition boosts Lahore’s profile as a tourist destination and fosters cross-border tourism, further strengthened by initiatives like the year-round opening of the Khunjerab Pass.<\/p>\n
