ISLAMABAD: Sui Northern and Sui Southern Gas Companies<\/a> have submitted<\/span> requests<\/span> for<\/span> significant<\/span> increases in<\/span> their<\/span> tariffs<\/span> to<\/span> cover<\/span> the<\/span> fiscal year 2025-26, which will frequently<\/span> lead<\/span> to<\/span> a price<\/span> increase<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> price of<\/span> natural<\/span> gas<\/span> to<\/span> consumers<\/span> in<\/span> Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Sui Northern has<\/span> requested<\/span> a<\/span> price<\/span> increase of Rs. 735.59 per MMBTU, and<\/span> Sui Southern requests<\/span> a price<\/span> increase<\/span> of Rs. 2443, including adjustments for previous shortfalls.<\/p>\n

To<\/span> suffice<\/span> the<\/span> financials<\/span> of<\/span> both<\/span> gas<\/span> companies,<\/span> Sui<\/span> Northern<\/span> states<\/span> it<\/span> needs<\/span> Rs. 700 billion,<\/span> while<\/span> Sui<\/span> Southern<\/span> is<\/span> requesting<\/span> Rs. 44 billion. OGRA announced<\/span> they<\/span> approved significant increases<\/span> in gas tariff<\/span> with the<\/span> average increase<\/span> of 25.78% in<\/span> Sindh and Balochistan\u00a0and the<\/span> average<\/span> increase<\/span> of<\/span> 8.71% in<\/span> Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad.<\/p>\n

The gas price increase<\/span> will generally<\/span> lead<\/span> to<\/span> higher<\/span> living costs<\/span> and production costs<\/span> to<\/span> households and industry<\/span>. However, we<\/span> can<\/span> take<\/span> some<\/span> relief<\/span> with<\/span> expected<\/span> decline<\/span> in the<\/span> cost<\/span> in<\/span> petrol<\/span> to<\/span> Rs. 12 per litre<\/span> starting<\/span> April 16 due<\/span> to<\/span> decline in global crude oil prices<\/span>.<\/p>\n
