{"id":70274,"date":"2025-04-10T22:45:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T17:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=70274"},"modified":"2025-04-10T22:45:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T17:45:38","slug":"sindh-bans-junk-food-soft-drinks-for-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/education\/sindh-bans-junk-food-soft-drinks-for-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Sindh bans junk food, soft drinks for students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/imf-satisfactory-with-pakistans-7bn-loan-programme-implementation\/\">Sindh Food Authority<\/a> (SFA) has taken <span class=\"diff-highlight\">an<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">essential<\/span> step <span class=\"diff-highlight\">toward<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">improving<\/span> healthy eating among students by <span class=\"diff-highlight\">ordering<\/span> educational institutions to <span class=\"diff-highlight\">restrict<\/span> the <span class=\"diff-highlight\">selling<\/span> of unhealthy and junk food on <span class=\"diff-highlight\">campus<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">The<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">action<\/span> aims to <span class=\"diff-highlight\">restrict<\/span> fried foods, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/psl-2025-kfc-pepsi-sponsorships-spark-boycott-calls-amid-israel-palestine-conflict\/\">soft drinks<\/a>, and energy drinks in schools and colleges <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">best<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">interests<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> students&#8217; health and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">welfare<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The SFA has <span class=\"diff-highlight\">asked<\/span> administrations <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">make<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">sure<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">that<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/indian-army-canteen-employee-arrested-for-allegedly-disclosing-confidential-information-to-pakistani-spy\/\">canteens and food courts<\/a> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">are<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">effectively<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">monitored<\/span> to enforce this <span class=\"diff-highlight\">restriction<\/span>, which <span class=\"diff-highlight\">is<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">line<\/span> with a notification <span class=\"diff-highlight\">provided<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">2018<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">Similarly<\/span>, the Peshawar administration has <span class=\"diff-highlight\">banned<\/span> junk food <span class=\"diff-highlight\">sold<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">around<\/span> schools <span class=\"diff-highlight\">at<\/span> a <span class=\"diff-highlight\">distance<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> 150 <span class=\"diff-highlight\">m<\/span>. This ban <span class=\"diff-highlight\">was<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">imposed<\/span> under Section 144 <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">will<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">last<\/span> 30 days<span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">Vendors<\/span> selling chips and other <span class=\"diff-highlight\">inferior<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">forms<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> junk food will <span class=\"diff-highlight\">be<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">legally<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">pursued<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">by<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Peshawar<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">government<\/span>. The SFA&#8217;s <span class=\"diff-highlight\">letter<\/span> is part of <span class=\"diff-highlight\">a<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">major<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">health<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">plan<\/span> to ensure <span class=\"diff-highlight\">safe<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">food<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">quality<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">The<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">authority,<\/span> which\u00a0<span class=\"diff-highlight\">began<\/span> under the SFA Act, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">2016,<\/span> regulates and monitors food establishments <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Sindh<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">The<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">SFA<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">undertakes<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">food<\/span> inspections and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">surveys<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">violations<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> standards <span class=\"diff-highlight\">are<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">enforced<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The SFA <span class=\"diff-highlight\">works<\/span> with local and international <span class=\"diff-highlight\">organisations<\/span> to promote <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">availability<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">healthy<\/span> food <span class=\"diff-highlight\">across<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">province<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has taken an essential step toward improving healthy eating among students by ordering educational institutions to restrict the selling of unhealthy and junk food on campus.
