{"id":71955,"date":"2025-04-25T14:32:34","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T09:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=71955"},"modified":"2025-04-25T14:32:53","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T09:32:53","slug":"shc-halts-fbr-to-take-action-against-nomi-ansari-in-tax-fraud-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/showbiz\/shc-halts-fbr-to-take-action-against-nomi-ansari-in-tax-fraud-case\/","title":{"rendered":"SHC halts FBR to take action against Nomi Ansari in tax fraud case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: The Sindh High Court <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/powerful-explosion-in-sindh-high-court-multiple-cylinders-exploded\/\">(SHC)<\/a> halted the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from issuing a notice to renowned Fashion designer Nomi Ansari in a<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/fbr-seals-three-luxury-watch-shops-in-karachi-amid-tax-fraud\/\"> tax fraud<\/a> case of Rs. 1 billion on Friday, according to media reports.<\/p>\n<p>A two-member bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar issued notice to the relevant authorities to appear in person on next hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The court also directed the FBR official, who filed the FIR, to be present before the court at the next hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners claimed that the FIR breached a previous interim ruling given by the SHC in a related matter brought by the designer. They argued that the FIR lacked legal power and jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal also asserted that FBR conducted an illegal raid and shut the designer&#8217;s premises. That sealing was already challenged at the SHC, which temporarily halted the FBR&#8217;s action last month. Furthermore, the lawyer contended that the court had stayed earlier notices and summons issued to the petitioners on the identical topic in different instances.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) Karachi filed an <span class=\"diff-highlight\">FIR<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">report<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">against<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Mr<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Nomi,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"diff-highlight\">claiming<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">that<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">he<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">committed<\/span> sales tax fraud <span class=\"diff-highlight\">involving<\/span> a <span class=\"diff-highlight\">phenomenal<\/span> 1.25 billion rupees.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">Reportedly<\/span>, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">FBR<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">began<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">taking<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">action<\/span> after information <span class=\"diff-highlight\">about<\/span> tax evasion, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">began<\/span> an investigation<span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">showing<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Nomi<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">was<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">fraudulent<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">with<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">a<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">good<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">deal<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> evidence\u00a0<span class=\"diff-highlight\">regarding<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">possible<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">fraud<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Accordingly<\/span>, the FBR <span class=\"diff-highlight\">received<\/span> search warrants from a magistrate and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">searched<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">examined<\/span> Nomi Ansari&#8217;s factory <span class=\"diff-highlight\">(<\/span>and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">many<\/span> outlets <span class=\"diff-highlight\">dated<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">)<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> Karachi, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">retrieved<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">documents<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">(<\/span>records<span class=\"diff-highlight\">)<\/span> and other <span class=\"diff-highlight\">things<\/span> relevant <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">investigation<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) halted the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from issuing a notice to renowned Fashion designer Nomi Ansari in a tax fraud case of Rs. 1 billion on Friday, according to media reports.
