SUKKUR: The<\/span> blockade across<\/span> Sindh and<\/span> Punjab borders<\/span> has<\/span> finally<\/span> ended<\/span> after<\/span> an agreement was<\/span> reached<\/span> between the Sindh government and the<\/span> lawyers.<\/p>\n

The protest led by the Sindh Lawyers’ Action Committee announced<\/span> the<\/span> protest<\/span> was<\/span> over<\/span> after the Council of Common Interests<\/a> (CCI) voted<\/span> to<\/span> stop<\/span> the controversial<\/span> canals project on the Indus River until there<\/span> was<\/span> a<\/span> positive<\/span> agreement<\/span> between<\/span> all federating units.<\/p>\n

Agreement and Committee Creation<\/span> The Sindh government agreed to create<\/span> a committee to reconcile<\/span> lawyers’ reservations<\/span> about<\/span> corporate farming, which was one<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> protest’s demands.<\/p>\n

After<\/span> establishing\u00a0the committee<\/span> and<\/span> moving<\/span> forward<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> rest<\/span>,<\/span> the<\/span> lawyers<\/span> ended<\/span> their protest, including the sit-in at Babarloi Bypass. Roads<\/span> Reopened<\/span> and Traffic<\/span> Resumed.<\/span> Now<\/span> that<\/span> the border<\/span> blockade<\/span> is<\/span> over<\/span>, heavy traffic has begun<\/span> again<\/span>, great<\/span> news<\/span> for<\/span> all<\/span> transporters and traders impacted<\/span> during<\/span> the blockade.<\/p>\n

President Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance<\/a>, Malik Shahzad Awan, was<\/span> grateful<\/span> to the Sindh Government<\/span> for complying<\/span> with<\/span> the<\/span> promise and hoped the government would compensate\u00a0transporters impacted<\/span> during<\/span> the<\/span> protest<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The CCI’s resolution<\/span> to put<\/span> the canals project on<\/span> hold<\/span> until provinces<\/span> come<\/span> to<\/span> a<\/span> consensus<\/span> is<\/span> a watershed<\/span> moment<\/span> for<\/span> enabling<\/span> attempts<\/span> to<\/span> address<\/span> the issues<\/span> of all federating units.<\/p>\n

The CCI also supported the<\/span> formation<\/span> of<\/span> a committee with a<\/span> national<\/span> member<\/span> and representatives<\/span> from<\/span> all provinces to develop an<\/span> agreement<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> long-term consensus roadmap for agriculture policy and water management infrastructure in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Reactions from<\/span> Stakeholders<\/span> Barrister<\/span> Sarfaraz<\/span> Metlo<\/span>,<\/span> chairman<\/span> Sindh High Court Bar Association and committee member, expressed<\/span> welcome<\/span> for<\/span> CCI’s decision and<\/span> appreciated<\/span> the<\/span> allied organizations for their backing<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The consensus<\/span> between the Sindh government and the<\/span> lawyers was<\/span> viewed<\/span> as a positive step in<\/span> moving<\/span> forward<\/span> with<\/span> resolving the issue and protecting<\/span> the rights of all stakeholders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
