{"id":73598,"date":"2025-05-08T18:11:04","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T13:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=73598"},"modified":"2025-05-08T18:11:04","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T13:11:04","slug":"aurat-march-karachi-postponed-amid-escalating-tensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/aurat-march-karachi-postponed-amid-escalating-tensions\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurat March Karachi postponed amid escalating tensions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Following<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">an<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">escalation<\/span> of hostilities between Pakistan and India, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/case-filed-against-aurat-march-organisers-for-breaching-section-144-in-islamabad\/\">Aurat March Karachi<\/a> has announced <span class=\"diff-highlight\">it<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">is<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">postponing<\/span> this year\u2019s <span class=\"diff-highlight\">March<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">due<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">heightened<\/span> security concerns and\u00a0<span class=\"diff-highlight\">threats<\/span> to marginalised communities.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on <span class=\"diff-highlight\">it<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">s<\/span> official Instagram page, the organisers said the decision was made \u201cafter much deliberation\u201d<span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">noted<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">how<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">difficult<\/span> the <span class=\"diff-highlight\">decision<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">was<\/span>, given the months of voluntary <span class=\"diff-highlight\">labour<\/span> that <span class=\"diff-highlight\">goes<\/span> into <span class=\"diff-highlight\">getting<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">ready<\/span> for the annual mobilisation <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">women<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">trans<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">non<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">binary<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">especially<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">those<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">from<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">working<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">class<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">neighbourhoods<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span>We understand what <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> march means to our communities and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">what<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">march<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">represents<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">as<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">a<\/span> space <span class=\"diff-highlight\">\u2014<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">one<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">few<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">spaces<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">where<\/span> women, trans, and non-binary <span class=\"diff-highlight\">can<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">claim<\/span> public space and speak truth to <span class=\"diff-highlight\">power<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">hold<\/span> power <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">account<\/span>,\u201d <span class=\"diff-highlight\">said<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">organisers<\/span>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DJXSxZGu3fQ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A post shared by Aurat March 2025 (@auratmarch)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>However, Aurat March <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Organisers<\/span> noted that <span class=\"diff-highlight\">aspects<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">our<\/span> current war-like <span class=\"diff-highlight\">situation<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">mean<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">that<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">we<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">are<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">at<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">an<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">increased<\/span> risk of violence, increased state surveillance, and restricted movement, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">which<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">puts<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">further<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">barriers<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">on<\/span> already vulnerable <span class=\"diff-highlight\">people<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> groups.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span>We are postponing the Aurat March <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> not cancelling \u2014 because our fight continues<span class=\"diff-highlight\">!<\/span>\u201d the statement emphasised, reaffirming <span class=\"diff-highlight\">many<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">of<\/span> the march\u2019s urgent demands<span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> including social security, reproductive healthcare, housing, labour rights, recognition of unpaid work, and freedom from violence. \u201cThese are not secondary to national <span class=\"diff-highlight\">issues<\/span> \u2014 <span class=\"diff-highlight\">these<\/span> are national <span class=\"diff-highlight\">issues<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Aurat March also made a <span class=\"diff-highlight\">direct<\/span> appeal to the state <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">follow<\/span> a diplomatic path to peace<span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">highlighted<\/span> the <span class=\"diff-highlight\">misallocation<\/span> of resources <span class=\"diff-highlight\">away<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">from<\/span> military build-up <span class=\"diff-highlight\">toward<\/span> essential public services.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span>Every war budget is <span class=\"diff-highlight\">instead<\/span> a <span class=\"diff-highlight\">choice<\/span> not to invest in hospitals, schools, ration programmes, and clean water.<span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span>The <span class=\"diff-highlight\">costs<\/span> of war <span class=\"diff-highlight\">are<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">born<\/span> not by those who wage it, but by those <span class=\"diff-highlight\">who<\/span> already <span class=\"diff-highlight\">exist<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> scarcity.<span class=\"diff-highlight\">&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI: Following an escalation of hostilities between Pakistan and India, Aurat March Karachi has announced it is postponing this year\u2019s March due to heightened security concerns and\u00a0threats to marginalised communities.
