ISLAMABAD: In a daring<\/span> cyber counterattack<\/a>, a Pakistani<\/span> hacker<\/span> group has<\/span> targeted<\/span> India<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s<\/span> cyberspace<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> pretext<\/span> of<\/span> \u201cOperation Salar\u201d.<\/p>\n

The group<\/span> claims<\/span> to<\/span> have<\/span> responded<\/span> to<\/span> Indian cyberattacks, the<\/span> anti-Pakistan campaign<\/span><\/a>, and oppression in Kashmir. Sources<\/span> state<\/span> that the hackers, describing<\/span> themselves<\/span> as a volunteer group, announced a<\/span> coordinated cyber operation to<\/span> directly<\/span> target<\/span> India<\/span>‘<\/span>s<\/span> digital infrastructure<\/span>.<\/p>\n

In the first<\/span> phase of<\/span> their<\/span> operation<\/span>, the<\/span> hackers<\/span> hacked four Indian websites, downloaded<\/span> data, and updated<\/span> the homepage<\/span> with<\/span> the Pakistani<\/span> national<\/span> flag<\/span>.<\/p>\n

In a statement released online, the group said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a direct response to India\u2019s cyber hostility and their continued cruelty in Kashmir. Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, but if our sovereignty or dignity is challenged, we won\u2019t remain silent. Operation Salar is a warning, not the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Many<\/span> on<\/span> social<\/span> media<\/span> are<\/span> stating<\/span> the<\/span> event<\/span> marks<\/span> the beginning of a cyber war. #OperationSalar quickly began trending on<\/span> social<\/span> media,<\/span> with some<\/span> users calling it a \u201ccyber knockout\u201d for India.<\/p>\n
