RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government is gearing<\/span> up<\/span> to conduct<\/span> feasibility studies on<\/span> major construction<\/span> projects<\/span> in Rawalpindi, with<\/span> underpasses at Chandani Chowk and Marrir Chowk and a flyover on IJ Principal Road.<\/div>\n

These reports<\/span> are anticipated<\/span> to enter<\/span> the Annual Development Program<\/a> for the year 2025\u201326. An<\/span> officer<\/span> from Housing and Urban Development said the proposals were submitted by local Members<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> National<\/span> Assembly<\/span> of<\/span> Pakistan<\/span>,<\/span> Railways Minister,<\/span> Hanif Abbasi from NA-56, and Danyal Chaudhry from NA-57.<\/div>\n

The Rawalpindi Development Authority<\/a> (RDA) has been assigned<\/span> to<\/span> work<\/span> on<\/span> the feasibility and detailed designs. Each project is<\/span> proposed<\/span> to<\/span> have<\/span> Rs. 40 million allocated<\/span> for further<\/span> studies<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n

The<\/span> projects are<\/span> tentatively<\/span>: A single barrel underpass at Chandani Chowk to<\/span> connect<\/span> Rawal Road to Murree Road A<\/span> Marrir Chowk underpass<\/span> A two lane flyover from Siddique Chowk to IJ Principal Road broken<\/span> over<\/span> a total karometer<\/span> block<\/span> “<\/span>Overall<\/span>,<\/span> these<\/span> projects are made<\/span> as<\/span> signal free corridors and aimed<\/span> to<\/span> reduce<\/span> traffic jams<\/span> on<\/span> major<\/span> junctions<\/span> of<\/span> Rawalpindi,“<\/span> the official said<\/span>.<\/div>\n

“<\/span>The Chandani,<\/span> Marrir Chowk underpass<\/span> will not<\/span> just<\/span> reduce travel time, but<\/span> to<\/span> make<\/span> it<\/span> safer<\/span>, we<\/span> will<\/span> provide<\/span> alternative routes to alleviate<\/span> traffic<\/span> on any<\/span> stranded<\/span> routes<\/span>.“<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He noted<\/span> that construction would start<\/span> after work<\/span> had<\/span> been<\/span> completed<\/span> on The Mall and Adiala Road. Also<\/span>, the government is considering a flyover,<\/span> or an<\/span> underpass,<\/span> at Kutcheri Chowk, and<\/span> the<\/span> base<\/span> and feasibility studies have<\/span> already been<\/span> planned<\/span> also<\/span>.<\/div>\n

The official emphasized that not<\/span> only<\/span> would there<\/span> be<\/span> traffic improvements<\/span>,<\/span> but environmental improvements and local economic activity would<\/span> also<\/span> follow<\/span>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
