{"id":74215,"date":"2025-05-13T14:29:58","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T09:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=74215"},"modified":"2025-05-13T14:29:58","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T09:29:58","slug":"sc-adjourns-zahir-jaffer-appeal-in-noor-mukadam-case-till-may-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/sc-adjourns-zahir-jaffer-appeal-in-noor-mukadam-case-till-may-19\/","title":{"rendered":"SC adjourns Zahir Jaffer appeal in Noor Mukadam case till May 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of Zahir Jaffer\u2019s appeal against his death sentence in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/noor-mukadam-murder-case-zahir-jaffer-sentenced-to-death\/\">Noor Mukadam murder<\/a> case until May 19.<\/p>\n<p>A three-member bench, led by Justice Hashim Kakar and comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, heard the high-profile case.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was announced following the consensus from both parties.<\/p>\n<p>Defence counsel Salman Safdar and prosecution lawyer Shah Khawar were present in court during the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Safdar requested a postponement, citing the need to submit additional documents. Justice Kakar, however, expressed displeasure over delays, remarking: \u201cWhy should we grant an adjournment if you\u2019re already present in court?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He maintained that Jaffer suffers from mental illness, a defence he claimed had been overlooked by both the trial and high courts.<\/p>\n<p>The judge further criticised unnecessary delays in the judicial system, saying: \u201cIn our court, a case is only delayed if the judge or a lawyer dies.\u201d He questioned the consequences of overturning a sentence after someone had spent 20 years on death row, asking what a freed convict might think in such a scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the defence counsel\u2019s request, the court maintained that a decision would be made once the application was submitted.
