{"id":74652,"date":"2025-05-17T11:33:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-17T06:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=74652"},"modified":"2025-05-17T11:33:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-17T06:33:35","slug":"roston-chase-appointed-west-indian-test-captain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/roston-chase-appointed-west-indian-test-captain\/","title":{"rendered":"Roston Chase appointed West Indian test captain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAINT JOHNS\u2019 (REUTERS): All-rounder <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/west-indies-claims-series-leveling-win-in-second-test-against-pakistan\/\">Roston Chase<\/a> has been appointed captain of the West Indies test team, succeeding Kraigg Brathwaite, Cricket West Indies announced.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/drone-attack-in-rawalpindi-food-street-near-cricket-stadium\/\">Brathwaite<\/a> stepped down in March, CWI put short-listed candidates through a process that included \u201cpsychometric testing to evaluate leadership style\u201d before choosing the 33-year-old Chase, the board said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Other short-listed candidates included John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves and Jomel Warrican.<\/p>\n<p>Warrican has been named Chase\u2019s deputy, while white-ball captain Shai Hope requested not to be considered for test captaincy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fully endorse this appointment,\u201d head coach Daren Sammy said in the CWI statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new captain has earned the respect of his peers, understands the responsibility that comes with the role and has shown the leadership qualities we need to take this team forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge fans across the region to rally behind him \u2013 we\u2019re building something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spin-bowling all-rounder Chase, who played the last of his 49 tests in March 2023, will begin his captaincy with a three-match home series against Australia on June 25.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SAINT JOHNS\u2019 (REUTERS): All-rounder Roston Chase has been appointed captain of the West Indies test team, succeeding Kraigg Brathwaite, Cricket West Indies announced.
