ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department<\/a> (PMD) has forecast<\/span> heatwave conditions to persist<\/span> over<\/span> the entire<\/span> country throughout the week.<\/p>\n

In a<\/span> daily weather advisory, the Met Office<\/a> indicated<\/span> that<\/span> a high-pressure situation<\/span> is forecast<\/span> persist at<\/span> high<\/span> altitudes<\/span> throughout<\/span> this timeframe<\/span>, leading to heatwave conditions<\/span>.<\/p>\n

In<\/span> southern areas<\/span> \u2014 including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan \u2013<\/span> the<\/span> daytime<\/span> high<\/span> temperatures<\/span> are going<\/span> to remain<\/span> 4 to 6\u00b0C above normal between<\/span> May 20 and<\/span> May<\/span> 24.<\/p>\n

Similarly<\/span>, the upper<\/span> and<\/span> northern regions \u2013<\/span> including central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan \u2013<\/span> daytime<\/span> high<\/span> temperatures are going<\/span> to remain 5 to 7\u00b0C above normal<\/span> between<\/span> May<\/span> 20<\/span> and<\/span> May<\/span> 24<\/span> Daytime<\/span> high<\/span> temperatures<\/span> in<\/span> Gilgit-Baltistan are<\/span> forecast<\/span> to be<\/span> partly cloudy, with no rainfall.<\/p>\n

However<\/span>,<\/span> in<\/span> Azad Kashmir, strong winds and thunderstorms with rain are anticipated<\/span>, which can<\/span> help alleviate<\/span> the<\/span> weather intensity<\/span> in that<\/span> region.<\/p>\n

If<\/span> you<\/span> look<\/span> at<\/span> Murree, Galiyat and the<\/span> surrounding areas,<\/span> thunderstorms<\/span> and<\/span> rain<\/span> are<\/span> forecast<\/span>, which could<\/span> generate<\/span> a small<\/span> reduction<\/span> in temperature<\/span>. In<\/span> the federal capital, Islamabad, the<\/span> weather<\/span> remains<\/span> hot and dry.<\/p>\n

PMD also warned<\/span> that changes<\/span> to<\/span> gusty winds,<\/span> due<\/span> to<\/span> severe<\/span> heat<\/span>,<\/span> may<\/span> prompt<\/span> dust<\/span> storms<\/span> in<\/span> plain<\/span> areas<\/span>. Health authorities recommended<\/span> that<\/span> people should<\/span> drink adequate<\/span> water and cold fluids, stay<\/span> out<\/span> of<\/span> direct sunlight, and should<\/span> wear head covering<\/span>.<\/p>\n

And<\/span>,<\/span> they<\/span> especially<\/span> cautioned<\/span> vulnerable populations<\/span>\u2014children, elders<\/span>, and the<\/span> ill<\/span>\u2014against<\/span> temperature<\/span>–<\/span>induced<\/span> illness<\/span>,<\/span> such<\/span> as<\/span> heatstroke<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
