ISLAMABAD: In light<\/span> of a protest announcement<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf<\/a> (PTI), security has been heightened at<\/span> the Islamabad High Court (IHC) through<\/span> additional police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) deployments<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The PTI announced a protest for today in<\/span> solidarity with the judiciary,<\/span> so<\/span> the<\/span> city<\/span> took<\/span> steps<\/span> to<\/span> secure<\/span> not only the IHC but also several<\/span> strategic<\/span> sites<\/span> across the city<\/span> and<\/span> surrounding<\/span> areas<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The protest comes amid growing frustration within PTI ranks over delays in the hearing of a case involving the suspension of sentences handed to PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the \u00a3190 million National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case.<\/p>\n

The<\/span> leaders have assured<\/span> that the party leadership will approach the High Court again<\/span> today in<\/span> their<\/span> ongoing<\/span> request<\/span> for<\/span> an accelerated<\/span> hearing at<\/span> the<\/span> High<\/span> Court<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The<\/span> Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‘<\/span>s Information adviser,<\/span> Barrister Saif, confirmed a large<\/span> demonstration will occur<\/span> outside the Islamabad High Court<\/a>,<\/span> with<\/span> all opposition invited to secure<\/span> a united opposition<\/span> against inertia<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> judiciary<\/span>.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Barrister Saif called<\/span> for<\/span> the repeal of 26th Amendment of<\/span> the<\/span> Constitution<\/span>, saying<\/span> that<\/span> it has crippled<\/span> the judicial system. “<\/span>The 26th<\/span> Amendment<\/span> has chained the judiciary. The<\/span> delay<\/span> of<\/span> justice is the<\/span> denial of justice“<\/span>, he said<\/span>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>He also<\/span> alleged that the fact<\/span> that<\/span> the<\/span> court is<\/span> continuously<\/span> delaying<\/span> hearings shows<\/span> that the cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated.<\/p>\n

“<\/span>If the<\/span> cases<\/span> had<\/span> any merit, they would<\/span> not<\/span> be delayed. The aim<\/span> is clear,<\/span> to keep Imran Khan behind bars,“<\/span> he said. \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>“<\/span>Imran Khan haunts<\/span> the illegitimate government.<\/p>\n

His release will<\/span> end<\/span> their survival“<\/span>. \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The PTI protest will<\/span> be<\/span> significant, especially considering<\/span> the<\/span> tensions between the opposition and the government regarding<\/span> alleged political victimisation<\/span>\u00a0and positive<\/span> interference with<\/span> the<\/span> judiciary<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
