RIYADH:\u00a0 Saudi Arabian officials<\/span> have issued a heat warning<\/span> <\/a>just<\/span> before<\/span> the<\/span> start<\/span> of this year‘<\/span>s Hajj, indicating<\/span> that pilgrims may<\/span> experience<\/span> very<\/span> high temperatures up to 47\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

The National Centre of Meteorology<\/a> (NCM) cautioned that the holy sites are likely<\/span> to endure<\/span> very hot conditions. Temperatures<\/span> are expected<\/span> to be<\/span> between 40 \u00b0C and 47 \u00b0C during<\/span> the<\/span> day<\/span> and<\/span> likely<\/span> to be<\/span> between 27 \u00b0C and 32 \u00b0C overnight<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Humidity levels<\/span> are<\/span> forecasted<\/span> to be<\/span> between 15% and 60%. Dr. Ayman Ghulam, CEO of NCM, explained<\/span> that winds from the south<\/span> and southwest<\/span> at 25 to 35 km\/h may cause<\/span> dust plumes<\/span>, which<\/span> may<\/span> affect<\/span> visibility in the<\/span> open<\/span> and on<\/span> highways.<\/p>\n

He also reported<\/span> that<\/span> thunderstorms<\/span> are<\/span> a<\/span> possibility<\/span> in the Taif highlands, which may<\/span> extend to the holy areas during<\/span> Dhu Al Hijjah 8 to<\/span> 13. These weather systems could<\/span> result<\/span> in<\/span> strong downdrafts that<\/span> may<\/span> exacerbate<\/span> dusty conditions.<\/p>\n

Pilgrims are<\/span> advised to protect<\/span> themselves<\/span>, drink<\/span> ample<\/span> amounts<\/span> of<\/span> water<\/span>, and be<\/span> aware<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> latest<\/span> weather information<\/span> from<\/span> official<\/span> government<\/span> sources<\/span> during<\/span> their<\/span> pilgrimage.<\/p>\n

In<\/span> efforts<\/span> to<\/span> augment<\/span> comfort, the Kingdom has launched<\/span> heat-mitigation projects<\/span>,<\/span> including<\/span> the recently launched cooled pedestrian pathway in Mecca.<\/p>\n

In a separate initiative<\/span>, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance received<\/span> the second group of pilgrims as<\/span> part<\/span> of<\/span> the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Hajj, Umrah, and Visit.<\/p>\n

This group consisted<\/span> of 1,053 pilgrims<\/span> from 76 different nations<\/span>. Minister Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al-Sheikh used<\/span> the opportunity<\/span> to<\/span> recall<\/span> the<\/span> aspirations<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Program<\/span>,<\/span> which<\/span> are<\/span> a reflection of Saudi Arabia as<\/span> a<\/span> host<\/span> and<\/span> facilitator<\/span>,<\/span> and the<\/span> projects<\/span> of<\/span> global Islamic unity.<\/p>\n

While<\/span> all<\/span> final arrangements<\/span> are made<\/span> at the holy sites to ensure a successful<\/span> and safe<\/span> pilgrimage,<\/span> the<\/span> Ministry of Tourism stated<\/span> that there<\/span> are<\/span> now<\/span> over 1,160 hospitality establishments in Makkah licensed (<\/span>an<\/span> increase<\/span> of<\/span> 54% in the first quarter of 2025 versus<\/span> last year)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
