SINGAPORE: India’s military<\/a> has for the first time confirmed the loss of an unspecified number of fighter jets during clashes with Pakistan in May.<\/p>\n

The confirmation came from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)<\/a>, Anil Chauhan, who spoke to Bloomberg TV<\/em> on Saturday while attending the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what is important is not the jets being downed but why the jets were shot down,\u201d CDS said while speaking to Bloomberg TV.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The good part is that we are able to understand the tactical mistake which we made, remedy it, rectify it, and then implement it again after two days and flew all our jets again, targeting at long range.” He added.<\/p>\n

Answering a question, the Indian General confirmed the downing of the jets in the conflict with Pakistan earlier this month.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that the reasons why the Indian jets were shot down and what the Indian forces did after that were more important.<\/p>\n

Additionally, according to General Chauhan, the four-day battle never approached the brink of nuclear war.<\/p>\n

Chauhan’s comments are the first time an Indian official has directly confirmed what happened to the country’s fighter planes during the May 7 combat with Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Earlier, in his recent interview, BJP leader Subramanian\u00a0Swamy<\/span> told<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0interviewer<\/span>\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Pakistan Air Force shot down five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets during\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0most<\/span>\u00a0recent conflict\u00a0with<\/span>\u00a0their<\/span>\u00a0nuclear\u00a0power<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Swamy<\/span> raised serious questions<\/span> about Prime Minister Modi’s leadership by<\/span> declaring<\/span> that there<\/span> will<\/span> be<\/span> no<\/span> investigations<\/span> into<\/span> this<\/span> matter<\/span> while Modi is<\/span> in power. He acknowledged the<\/span> Arab<\/span> supremacy<\/span> in<\/span> this<\/span> sector,<\/span> and he<\/span> questioned<\/span> some<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> defense purchases<\/span> being<\/span> made<\/span> by<\/span> India<\/span>.<\/p>\n

When<\/span>\u00a0he<\/span>\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0asked<\/span>\u00a0about the opposition\u00a0calling<\/span>\u00a0for transparency regarding Indian losses, Swamy replied,\u00a0\u201c<\/span>Pakistan shot down five of our aircraft,\u00a0who<\/span>\u00a0were<\/span>\u00a0hoping<\/span>\u00a0Prime Minister Modi would come\u00a0out<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0address<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0nation<\/span>\u00a0honestly<\/span>\u00a0about\u00a0those<\/span>\u00a0facts<\/span>.<\/p>\n
