LAHORE: The government of Punjab<\/a> has made it mandatory for all types of vehicles to obtain a fitness certificate as part of efforts to reduce air pollution and smog in the province.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Opus Inspection (Pvt) Ltd, the provincial government has taken a major step in road safety and environmental protection by implementing a modern and computerized Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) network.<\/p>\n

Under this concept, the fitness of all vehicles plying in Punjab will be regularly reviewed and fitness certificates will be issued to them on satisfactory completion.<\/p>\n

The main objective of this effort is to protect the environment. Air pollution<\/a> is a serious health concern for the citizens of Pakistan. Vehicle emissions account for almost half of air pollution.<\/p>\n

Emission Testing Booth <\/span>Sites<\/span> in Lahore<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n


\nThe Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has <\/span>raised<\/span> the number of emission testing booths in Lahore <\/span>to 60 <\/span>from 08 <\/span>previously. <\/span>The<\/span> booths are <\/span>situated<\/span> in<\/span> strategic<\/span> locations<\/span> throughout<\/span> the city to make <\/span>it<\/span> easier<\/span> to<\/span> test <\/span>and <\/span>minimize<\/span> wait times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Green Sticker<\/a><\/h2>\n

After completing the Emission Testing Certification, the officials will paste a green sticker on the windscreen of the vehicles, which reflects that the vehicle has no adverse effect on the environment.<\/p>\n

Time Schedule Update<\/a><\/h2>\n

Mobile\u00a0<\/span>testing units\u00a0<\/span>for emissions <\/span>will now be\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>operation every week<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a\u00a0<\/span>break for\u00a0<\/span>lunch\u00a0<\/span>from<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>1:00 PM\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a02:00 PM.<\/span><\/p>\n

These units will be\u00a0deployed<\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>public\u00a0<\/span>locations<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>such<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as\u00a0<\/span>Metro Police Training Station, Wahdat Road, Liberty Market, Jail Road, and Shalimar Garden, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>locations<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span> Rescue 1122, Expo Centre, Jalopark Parking, and the\u00a0<\/span>campuses of\u00a0<\/span>Punjab University<\/span>. The\u00a0<\/span>campaign<\/span>\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>includes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>essential<\/span>\u00a0community\u00a0<\/span>locations<\/span>\u00a0such as markets, colleges, and police checkpoints to\u00a0<\/span>provide<\/span>\u00a0accessibility\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>general\u00a0<\/span>public.<\/span><\/p>\n

The department\u00a0stressed<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>additional<\/span>\u00a0mobile\u00a0<\/span>testing\u00a0<\/span>units will\u00a0<\/span>be deployed\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0motorways and highways<\/span> soon<\/span>. Citizens are\u00a0<\/span>urged<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>comply<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>have<\/span>\u00a0their vehicles tested as part of the government<\/span>‘<\/span>s\u00a0<\/span>efforts<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>toward<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>better<\/span>\u00a0air quality and public health.<\/span><\/p>\n
