{"id":77871,"date":"2025-06-18T14:49:59","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=77871"},"modified":"2025-06-18T14:49:59","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:49:59","slug":"govt-announces-major-tax-reduction-on-solar-panels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/govt-announces-major-tax-reduction-on-solar-panels\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt announces major tax reduction on solar panels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a major reduction in sales tax on solar panels, which was proposed in the budget for the<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/president-zardari-emphasizes-upon-common-mans-welfare-in-federal-budget\/\"> fiscal year 2025-26.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced a reduction in the 18 percent sales tax imposed on solar panels in the budget to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/president-asif-zardari-signs-child-marriage-restraint-bill-2025\/\">10 percent.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ishaq Dar said that the government has revised some budget proposals, and consultations with allies on the budget are underway.<\/p>\n<p>He also underscores that the sales tax on digital services is the right of the provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Prime Minister said that the amount allocated for Sindh universities is being increased from Rs 2.6 billion to Rs 4.6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the government had announced that impose an 18 percent sales tax on solar panels in the budget for the next fiscal year, which was rejected by the Standing Committee on Finance.<\/p>\n<p>The NA body\u2019s meeting, which was presided over by Naveed Qamar, was informed by the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) that solar cells are exempt from sales tax.<\/p>\n<p>The importation of full solar panels is exempt from sales tax. Parts that are imported to be finished here are subject to taxes, the head of the FBR stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are talking about renewable energy, you shouldn\u2019t slap a tax on solar panels,\u201d Mirza Iftikhar stated. \u201cImported solar panels are less expensive than locally made ones, which are also of lower quality,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The FBR\u2019s proposal was rejected by the standing committee members by a majority vote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a major reduction in sales tax on solar panels, which was proposed in the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.
