ISLAMABAD: In a significant setback for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf<\/a> (PTI), the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has ruled that the party is not entitled to seats reserved for women and minorities in the national and provincial assemblies.<\/p>\n

The verdict was announced by a 10-member bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan on Friday. After<\/span> a<\/span> brief<\/span> ruling, Justice Aminuddin Khan stated<\/span>, \u201cthe<\/span> undersigned<\/span> justice<\/span> Aminuddin Khan, Justice Mussarat Hilali, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi all review petitions are allowed and impugned<\/span> majority judgement dated July 12, 2024 is set aside as a consequence thereof civil appeals filed by SIC are dismissed and judgement of<\/span> the Peshawar High Court<\/a> PHC is restored.\u201d<\/p>\n

Review<\/span> petitions against the<\/span> Supreme<\/span> Court<\/span>‘s ruling<\/span> dated<\/span> July 12, 2024 that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was entitled to the<\/span> reserved seats for women and minority<\/span> in the national assembly<\/span> and the<\/span> provincial assembly<\/span> were<\/span> filed<\/span> by<\/span> Pakistan<\/span> Muslim<\/span> League<\/span>–<\/span>Nawaz<\/span> (<\/span>PML<\/span>–<\/span>N<\/span>)<\/span>,<\/span> Pakistan<\/span> Peoples<\/span> Party<\/span> (<\/span>PPP<\/span>)<\/span> and<\/span> the<\/span> Election<\/span> Commission<\/span> of<\/span> Pakistan<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah announced<\/span> the verdict<\/span> on<\/span> behalf<\/span> of<\/span> the 8-5 majority of<\/span> the<\/span> full<\/span> bench<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> SC<\/span>, set<\/span> aside<\/span> the<\/span> order<\/span> of<\/span> the Peshawar High Court,<\/span> which<\/span>,<\/span> upheld<\/span> the<\/span> decision<\/span> of<\/span> the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to<\/span> deny<\/span> the reserved seats to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).<\/p>\n

In the<\/span> July 12 verdict, eight of the<\/span> thirteen<\/span> judges held<\/span> that 39 out of a list of 80\u00a0were and are the returned candidates of the PTI.<\/p>\n
