LAHORE: A local court in Lahore on Tuesday discharged the elderly citizen, who was arrested for allegedly using abusive language against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz<\/a>, citing a lack of evidence.<\/p>\n

The accused, named Sajid Nawaz, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi in Model Town Court, Lahore.<\/p>\n

On the order of the court, the police released the elderly citizen by untying his handcuffs on the court premises.<\/p>\n

Duing the hearing today,\u00a0Advocate Sameer Khan Khattak\u00a0alleged that police had illegally detained his client\u2019s father for the past two days. He claimed that Sajid had been arrested without any registered case and had not been produced before any court.<\/p>\n

Earlier on July 14, Sajid’s son, Muhammad Umar, filed the habeas corpus petition in the session court, demanding the recovery of his father.<\/p>\n

The counsel also stated that the police had forced the petitioner\u2019s father to record apology videos, which were later circulated on social media. He asked the court to order the recovery and release of the petitioner\u2019s father.<\/p>\n
