RAWALPINDI: As many as 63 people died<\/a> in the last 36 hours in Punjab due to heavy rainfall in the province, paralyzing the daily life routine, according to media reports.<\/p>\n

Rawalpindi<\/a> has received a record 20 millimeters of rain, wreaking havoc in the city.<\/p>\n

At Gawalmandi Point, the local Lai nullah rose to a height of 19 feet, while the roadways at Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Murree Road were flooded by the rain.<\/p>\n

The flood submerged the streets and roadways in low-lying regions. More rain is expected in the area during the next few hours, according to the Met Office.<\/p>\n

Holiday in Rawalpindi<\/h2>\n

Given the prevailing weather conditions, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi has announced a one-day public holiday across the district here on Thursday.<\/p>\n

A formal notification has been issued, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel to ensure safety during the ongoing heavy rainfall and potential flooding.<\/p>\n

Situation in Punjab:<\/h1>\n

Rooftop collapse in Akbari Gate area of Lahore leaves three dead, while a minor and her mother lost their lives in a similar incident in Faisalabad.<\/p>\n

To address the emergency, the local government has requested military aid.<\/p>\n

Chakwal and the surrounding low-lying regions were inundated. Additionally, the lives of Talla Gang, Kallar Kahar, and Choa Syedan Shah were paralyzed, and the district headquarters was connected to other villages.<\/p>\n
