LAHORE: The government of Punjab has revealed the introduction of a state-of-the-art electric green bus<\/a> service in Sargodha Division with the objective of developing green and affordable transport facilities.<\/p>\n

The first phase will have 48 electric buses in Sargodha, 12 buses in Khushab, and 6 buses each in Mianwali and Bhakkar, the Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) informed.<\/p>\n

The new service is to start on August 14<\/a>. As a gesture towards supporting vulnerable sections, the green buses will provide free journeys for senior citizens, disabled people, and students.<\/p>\n

Government officials are hopeful that this initiative will not only enhance public transport but also encourage cleaner and greener urban mobility in the region.<\/p>\n

While announcing the move, the Punjab Government stated that it would soon initiate an electric tram as part of its efforts to introduce environment-friendly transport in the wake of climate-related issues.<\/p>\n

The provincial government has ordered the electric tram from China, and a section of the media claimed today that the first shipment has arrived in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The provincial government is yet to make an official statement in this context. It has come to light that the pilot project will be introduced in Lahore, and then it will be extended after analyzing every detail.<\/p>\n

The long-awaited electric tram will allegedly run from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura or Jallo Park on Canal Road.<\/p>\n

It is capable of accommodating 250 passengers simultaneously, while it could travel a distance of up to 27 kilometers on merely a 10-minute charge.<\/p>\n

With the successful implementation, electric trams will also be introduced in Gujranwala and Faisalabad, ushering in a new era of clean and green public transport in Punjab.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the province\u2019s first fully electric bus service in Lahore. The new fleet consists of buses with a capacity of 30 seats and the ability to carry 80 passengers.<\/p>\n

The electric buses have advanced facilities such as GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB plugs, and ramps for the disabled. In an attempt to increase safety, anti-slip flooring has been fitted and cameras installed to avoid harassment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
