BUNER: Torrential rains, cloudbursts<\/a>, landslides, and flash floods have wreaked havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, killing 307 people in various accidents.<\/p>\n

The deceased include 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children, according to the Provisional Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).<\/p>\n

The latest floods damaged 74 homes, partially destroyed 63 buildings, and destroyed 11 houses, according to the PDMA, which warns that the current rainy spell will last until August 21.<\/p>\n

Noting that rain-related events have been recorded in Buner, where 184 people have died, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and other regions, the PDMA said that Rs500 million has been issued for flood-affected districts.<\/p>\n

Buner has been granted Rs15 million, while Bajaur, Battagram, and Mansehra have each received Rs10 million.<\/p>\n

The KP government has classified all of these districts, including Swat, as disaster-hit regions.<\/p>\n

Regarding the details of the damage caused by cloudbursts, rain, and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the\u00a0 Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)<\/a> stated that the death toll in the province has exceeded 214.<\/p>\n

According to the PDMA, the highest loss was in Buner district, where more than 12 villages of Buner were severely affected by the cloudburst, resulting in the deaths of 157 individuals.<\/p>\n

More than 60 people were injured due to rain, cloudbursts, and flash floods. Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, and Battagram have been declared disaster-hit districts, as per the PDMA.<\/p>\n

The number of rescue teams has been further increased in the affected districts. Rescue operations are underway, with provincial helicopters also being used.<\/p>\n

Several people were swept away by a cloudburst in the Battagram area of Mansehra district late last night.<\/p>\n

According to police, several houses in the area were destroyed, and a large number of livestock were also swept away in the flood, for which search operations are underway.<\/p>\n

According to the PDMA, the accidents occurred in Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram. A total of 30 houses were damaged due to the rains, 25 houses were partially destroyed, while 5 houses were completely destroyed.<\/p>\n

The most affected districts are Bajaur and Battagram, where rescue operations are underway.<\/p>\n

The PDMA says that heavy rains are likely to continue intermittently in KP until August 21.<\/p>\n

Destruction in various valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan<\/h2>\n

In Gilgit-Baltistan, destruction spread in various valleys due to flood waves, in which 10 people died, many people were swept away in the Uchhar drain of Chilas, many took refuge in tree trunks, crops, houses, gardens, communication bridges, and water channels were destroyed.<\/p>\n

The central power plant, Naltar station, was destroyed due to the flood, and the city was plunged into darkness due to the closure of the power station.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government says that the work of restoring flood-affected roads is underway, and relief operations are underway in the flood-affected areas.<\/p>\n

Erosion is continuing on both sides of the Hassanabad drain due to the melting of the Sheshpar glacier in Hunza.<\/p>\n

The administration has given notice to evacuate houses.<\/p>\n

Azad Kashmir Situation<\/h2>\n

In the Neelum Valley of Azad Kashmir, flood waves swept away 6 communication bridges built on the river, and 11 people died in various accidents.<\/p>\n

The Ratti Gali road was washed away in different places due to the cloudburst, and several tourists are stranded at the Ratti Gali base camp.<\/p>\n

Three connection bridges, each on the Neelum and Lawat drains, were washed away, the Kohala highway connecting Azad Kashmir with Rawalpindi is closed due to landslides, and more than 30 houses, shops, and other properties were destroyed at various places.<\/p>\n

Tourists have been prevented from returning due to bad weather.<\/p>\n

According to Azad Kashmir Information Minister Mazhar Saeed, more than 500 tourists are stranded in the tourist spot Ratti Gali, and all tourists are safe.<\/p>\n

Several connection roads are closed due to landslides in the eight locations, while traffic on the Neelum highway is affected.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the electricity and phone systems in the upper areas are also affected.<\/p>\n

In view of the rain and landslides, all government and private schools in the affected districts will remain closed today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Pakistan Army’s flood relief operation<\/h2>\n

The Pakistan Army is conducting relief operations in flood-affected districts of Swat and Bajaur.<\/p>\n

Pakistan Army teams are evacuating people from the affected areas to safer places.<\/p>\n
