Five bridges were seen collapsing in Skardu, while the Ochar River in Chilas swept away several residents, claiming ten lives.<\/p>\n<p>Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the worst-hit region, with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reporting 307 deaths in the past 48 hours, including 279 men, 15 women and 13 children. The floods damaged 74 houses, and devastated populations in Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla and Battagram. Rescue 1122, police, army personnel and local authorities worked tirelessly to safely evacuate all tourists and 98 vehicles, highlighting the danger faced by travelers in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Buner emerged as the epicentre of the tragedy, where floods and sudden cloudbursts killed at least 184 people. Entire villages including Gadzi and Pir Baba were submerged in floodwaters, houses, markets and even a police station were submerged. Hospitals were overwhelmed, and brave local youth risked their lives to save a family coming from Punjab. The Pakistan Army has deployed additional personnel to help with relief operations.<\/p>\n<p>14 bodies have been recovered from the Nandyar River in Battagram while rescue teams continue to search for seven people missing after floodwaters swept through the village of Dheri Halim.<\/p>\n<p>The NDMA has issued a warning of more heavy rains from August 18 to 22, which threatens to worsen the already disastrous situation in northern Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the huge losses, global condolences were expressed as nations expressed solidarity with Pakistan.
