ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Laptop Scheme has been postponed due to the recent catastrophes caused by the monsoon rains and floods across the country, state-run APP<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n

Under the scheme, the federal government is set to distribute 100,000 free laptops<\/a> to deserving students nationwide.<\/p>\n

The laptop distribution event was initially set to begin in July 2025, but, according to the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP) officials, it has been put on hold to accommodate the relief efforts in flood-affected areas of KP, GB, Punjab, and Azad Kashmir.<\/p>\n

The ceremony has been rescheduled by 2 weeks due to university closures nationwide, and officials said that a revised date will be announced soon.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Prime Minister said that the distribution of these laptops will cover all four provinces, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, and will be based purely on merit.<\/p>\n

He added that these laptops would be separate from the scheme for laptops through interest-based loans.<\/p>\n

Eligibility Criteria for PM Laptop Scheme<\/h2>\n

The student must be enrolled in any programme (PhD, MS\/MPhil, Master\u2019s\/ Bachelor\u2019s) to apply for the program. Applicants must meet a CGPA of 2.80 or 60% marks.<\/p>\n

First-semester students are required to submit intermediate results, while MS\/PhD students in their first semester must provide transcripts of their previous degree.<\/p>\n

However, the deadline to apply for a free laptop has ended.<\/p>\n

The government has also set a quota system for the distribution of laptops, with 18% reserved for students in Balochistan\u2019s higher education institutions and 5% for distance learning students.<\/p>\n

Laptops distributed so far<\/h2>\n

Chairman of the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that so far, 600,000 laptops have been awarded to the students on merit as of now.<\/p>\n

Out of the total, 334,556 were given to male students and 265,444 to female students. The figures were 58,000 for females and 42,000 for males in the year 2024 only, he said.<\/p>\n
