{"id":92018,"date":"2025-11-24T20:28:48","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T15:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=92018"},"modified":"2025-11-24T20:28:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T15:28:48","slug":"punjab-govt-to-privatize-over-4000-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/education\/punjab-govt-to-privatize-over-4000-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Punjab govt to privatize over 4000 schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The Education Department has <span class=\"diff-highlight\">announced<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">that<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">it<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">will<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">begin<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">a<\/span> third phase of its <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/education\/punjab-govt-extends-deadline-for-school-teachers-intern-program\/\">school privatization <span class=\"diff-highlight\">program<\/span><\/a> in December, which <span class=\"diff-highlight\">will<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">shift<\/span> 4,500 primary, middle, and high schools to private operators<span class=\"diff-highlight\">,<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">bringing<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">total<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">to<\/span> 12,500 government schools privatized.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new plan, all schools <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> the province with 100 students or <span class=\"diff-highlight\">fewer<\/span> will be <span class=\"diff-highlight\">privatized<\/span>. <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Officials<\/span> have been <span class=\"diff-highlight\">asked<\/span> to <span class=\"diff-highlight\">provide<\/span> updated lists of <span class=\"diff-highlight\">these<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">schools<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers currently at these schools will be reassigned to nearby <span class=\"diff-highlight\">schools<\/span> or to the surplus pool. For the first time, <span class=\"diff-highlight\">there<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">are<\/span> also <span class=\"diff-highlight\">high<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">schools<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">involved<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">in<\/span> the privatization.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"diff-highlight\">notification<\/span> has <span class=\"diff-highlight\">been<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">condemned<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">by<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">teachers&#8217;<\/span> organizations <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">unions<\/span>. Rana Liaqat, Secretary General of the Punjab Teachers Union; Muhammad Shafiq Bhalowalia, Central Secretary of the Punjab SES Teachers Union; and Busharat Iqbal Raja, President of the Educators Association, condemned the <span class=\"diff-highlight\">plan<\/span> and demanded its withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>They warned that <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Education<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">Department<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">was<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">sabotaging<\/span> the education sector <span class=\"diff-highlight\">both<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">by<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">privatization<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">and<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">teacher<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">rationalization<\/span><span class=\"diff-highlight\">.<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">They<\/span> argued that <span class=\"diff-highlight\">sending<\/span> schools to private <span class=\"diff-highlight\">operators<\/span> would <span class=\"diff-highlight\">increase<\/span> fees and <span class=\"diff-highlight\">undermine<\/span> <span class=\"diff-highlight\">the<\/span> already <span class=\"diff-highlight\">vulnerable<\/span> public education system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The Education Department has announced that it will begin a third phase of its school privatization program in December, which will shift 4,500 primary, middle, and high schools to private operators, bringing the total to 12,500 government schools privatized.
